[CHC10102]
The primary goal of this participant focused program is to prepare job seekers for work by identifying and overcoming the barriers facing them, thus enabling them to successfully gain and retain employment. This is achieved by using a variety of learning strategies which recognise and support the learner's needs. This program is complemented by a motivated and dedicated team who promote positive outcomes and provide a supportive learning environment.
COURSE OUTLINE The following is included:
WORKPLACE PREPARATION
Working within a simulated work place environment, participants develop problem solving skills as they prioritise tasks and develop basic time management strategies. Working as a team, participants also explore different work place roles and responsibilities including the rights of both the employer and employee. Workplace communication is an integral aspect of this program as participants develop the necessary skills to communicate effectively in the work place. This includes practicing effective questioning and active listening whilst demonstrating appropriate non-verbal behaviour. Participants are also required to give and receive constructive feedback and identify appropriate lines of communication.
WORK PLACE PRESENTATION
Participants will learn the all important skills of being able to present themselves appropriately for work. It is well known that well presented applicants have greater appeal to employers as good presentation projects confidence, reliability and self respect, whereas poor presentation reflects a lack of organisation and discipline. Topics include personal image development and work place etiquette.
INTERVIEW SKILLS
Working within a simulated work place environment participants develop confidence and skills to prepare for interviews, make and receive work related phone calls and greet people appropriately. Crafting appropriate responses, maintaining appropriate eye contact and learning the all important skill of selling yourself is also developed.
OH&S
Basic OH&S skills are developed in a simulated workplace environment. Participants learn to identify workplace hazards, including their causes and consequences. The ability to deal with hazards in accordance with workplace policy and procedures is also developed.
SELF ESTEEM
Research shows that people with higher self esteem actively seek new experiences, accept criticisms more easily and believe they are capable of learning new skills. These factors can be crucial to overcoming barriers to employment. With the use of psychologically endorsed activities participant's self esteem is developed. These include: positive affirmations, realistic goal setting, giving and receiving compliments, identifying our strengths, building upon weaknesses and recognising successes already achieved. This process is a critical component of developing confidence and establishing a sense of self-worth.
CONFIDENCE & GOAL SETTING
Confidence is addressed and developed holistically with positive reassurance and continued feedback from trainers. Participants engage in pyschologically endorsed confidence building activities and undergo a skills assessment incorporating work, life and study experiences. Career directions and study pathways are identified. Current skills, knowledge and attitudes are assessed as participants are encouraged to develop long and short term goals. Appropriate work place attitudes are also identified and discussed.
